Brazil Landslides Kill 16

Luke 21:25,26 NLT “And there will be strange signs in the sun, moon, and stars. And here on earth the nations will be in turmoil, perplexed by the roaring seas and strange tides. People will be terrified at what they see coming upon the earth, for the powers in the heavens will be shaken.”

A river near the city of Petropolis, 40 miles north of Rio de Janeiro, burst its banks and flooded the city center launching mudslides that have killed at least 16 and injured dozens.

Two emergency workers have been confirmed among the dead.

Brazil’s President is furious over reports that residents ignored government warnings of flooding. President Dilma Rousseff said that “drastic measures” would be taken to remove people living in areas of risk.

Some areas have had almost a foot of rain in the last 24 hours. By comparison, the region averages 10 inches of rain over an entire month. More heavy rain is in the forecast for the region.

Petropolis has suffered major landslides in the past. 900 residents died in a 2011 landslide.
