Trust, Delight, Commit

Have you ever had trouble falling asleep at night?

I’ve had nights where I don’t think I’ll ever be able to fall asleep. I will be laying in bed, exhausted, but my mind will be running in a million different directions. I’ll think about Morningside, our show, our family, and all of the things happening in the world before us.

Lori will be sound asleep, and I’ll still be there tossing and turning. But when I have nights like that, I think about one of my favorite Bible verses — “Trust, Delight and Commit” from Psalm 37.

To me, it’s the greatest sleeping pill there is!

Psalm 37:3-6, tells us “Trust in the Lord, and do good; Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness. Delight yourself also in the Lord and He shall give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord, Trust also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass.”

My mind knows this Scripture so well that when I can’t sleep and I’m wiggling around, I just think ‘Trust, Delight and Commit.” All of sudden, all of the nerves in my body just fade away!

There are so many other wonderful parts of that Psalm, you really should mark it and read the whole thing. I believe that chapter is put in the Bible to help us figure out what’s difficult to understand.

Now that we’re in the last days, there will be a lot of things we see that are hard to comprehend. Revelation talks about so many amazing sights, some of which we’re already seeing. But we must remember that no matter what happens, there’s nothing the faithful ever need to worry about.

Right in the Psalm, first verse, God says: “Do not fret because of evildoers, nor be envious of the workers of iniquity.” Further down, it says “all enemies of the Lord — anyone who’s against God — will vanish like smoke”. All of those nasty people out there who seem to be blessed? They’re going to be cut like grass! They will wither away! And their day is coming soon!

But what about those who Trust, Delight, and Commit? The ones who give their lives to God?

The same Psalm tells us God will save them. He will give them strength in troubling times — and believe me, these will be troubling times! We’ve only seen a glimpse of the crisis that’s coming!

But when it’s all over, the Word tells us the wicked will be gone and the righteous will be saved!

Don’t get me wrong — God still wants us to prepare. He wouldn’t be giving us all of these signs if he didn’t want us to be ready. Some of the things I dream about are what will happen to those who aren’t ready. There will be millions who aren’t prepared for what God has warned us about!

But if we listen to his warnings, get ready, and dedicate ourselves to His Almighty Will in these last days, He will have a place waiting for us alongside Him in heaven! If we just take the time to listen to Him, study His word and go out and serve Him in these days, we shall be delivered!

It isn’t going to be easy, and there are going to be great challenges ahead. We need to win souls back to the church. But we have to remember that those who are on God’s side will be saved.

Trust, Delight, and Commit. Remember that, fret not and you will be able to truly rest in the Lord.

Love, Jim
