Six US soldiers were killed in Afghanistan by a roadside bomb while on a mission with other NATO forces. The incident comes after 14 civilians were killed in Taliban attacks on Sunday.

A depot holding ballots and election equipment in the city of Ajdabiya was firebombed destroying everything inside the building. The attack came less than a week after an attack on the electoral commission in Benghazi. The firebombing happened just before sunrise. Tens of thousands of computers in America will lose their internet connection ability on Monday when the FBI turns off special web servers aimed at keeping the infected computers from losing access.
The FBI worked with international groups to break an organization of international hackers who secretly infected millions of computers and used them as servers to send information and steal information from the host computers. Save The Children has issued a statement saying that drought and continuing conflicts in Somalia threatens the recovery from famine in the country.
The charity group says an “urgent increase” of aid is needed to the region because most families in Somalia are still unable to deal with the effects of the ongoing drought. A mystery disease that has killed 61 of 62 children diagnosed with the illness has baffled Cambodian health officials.
The only thing health officials and World Health Organization staff has determined is that it’s very unlikely the disease is transmitted from person to person. A truck bombing in the Iraqi city of Diwaniya has killed at least 25 people and wounded 40 more on a day where bomb attacks spread throughout the country.
The bombing appeared to be aimed at Shia Muslims who were gathering at a market near a mosque for a pilgrimage to Karbala. The Shia community is celebrating the anniversary of the birth of a revered Imam.

The chief executive of Barclays is out after allegations that he was involved with a scheme to manipulate interbank lending rates. Although the government could not produce evidence that Bob Diamond was personally involved with the scheme, Diamond was encouraged to resign to keep from “damaging the franchise.”
The resignation comes a week after Barclays bank was fined over $455 million for attempting to manipulate the rates that banks lend money to each other. Shares for the bank fell over 15% following the announcement of the attempted manipulation. Continue reading →
